Real Madrid Open Disciplinary Proceedings Against Raúl Asencio

Real Madrid have opened disciplinary proceedings against defender Raúl Asencio following his recent conviction for driving under the influence of alcohol, coach José Mourinho confirmed on Thursday. The 23-year-old was fined €14,400 and banned from driving for eight months after admitting the offence in a fast-track hearing in Gran Canaria.

Asencio was stopped at a traffic checkpoint in San Bartolomé de Tirajana on August 16 and recorded an alcohol reading of 0.90 milligrams per litre of exhaled air, well above Spain's legal limit. He accepted the sentence proposed by prosecutors during proceedings held three days after the incident.

Speaking ahead of Real Madrid's match against Real Betis, Mourinho acknowledged Asencio's professionalism at the training ground but expressed his disappointment over the defender's off-field conduct. The Portuguese coach stressed that representing Real Madrid carries responsibilities beyond the pitch and said repeated incidents make the situation more serious.

Asencio was also facing a separate legal case concerning the alleged unauthorized sharing of a sexual video recorded in 2023. However, on Thursday, a Gran Canaria court acquitted him after the two women involved forgave the accused, while three former Real Madrid academy players received suspended one-year prison sentences over their roles in recording and distributing the footage.

Despite the disciplinary process, Mourinho indicated that Asencio remains part of the squad while the club deals with the matter. The defender has been sidelined with a thigh injury since July and is expected to remain unavailable for at least several more weeks.
