Rafael Nadal has rejected reports suggesting he could enter the race to become Real Madrid president following Florentino Pérez’s announcement of upcoming elections at the club.
The 22-time Grand Slam champion addressed the speculation on social media, firmly denying any intention to stand for the position and clarifying that the reports circulating were inaccurate.
Although Nadal is a lifelong Real Madrid supporter and honorary member of the club, he has previously admitted admiration for the presidency role, while also acknowledging the complexity and responsibility it involves.
In earlier interviews, he had expressed interest in the idea but stressed uncertainty about whether he would be suitable for such a demanding position, noting that circumstances and personal decisions could change over time.
Current president Florentino Pérez recently confirmed fresh elections and defended his leadership, highlighting the club’s sporting and financial success under his tenure, while also criticising what he described as external pressure and behind-the-scenes campaigns.
Pérez, who has led Real Madrid for multiple terms since 2000, has been re-elected unopposed in recent years, with strict eligibility rules in place for any future candidates, including long-term membership and financial guarantees.
Businessman Enrique Riquelme has also emerged as a potential candidate, stating he is considering whether to enter the race in the coming days.
Real Madrid’s season has been turbulent, with the club suffering setbacks on the pitch, including defeat in El Clásico that confirmed Barcelona as LaLiga champions, alongside reported internal tensions within the squad.
