Nottingham Forest accuse VAR of bias in defeat against Everton

Posted : 21 April 2024

Nottingham Forest expressed their dismay with the officiating during their 2-0 loss to Everton, particularly regarding three potential penalty claims that were dismissed by referee Anthony Taylor and VAR Stuart Attwell. The club took to social media after the match to voice their frustrations, highlighting their concerns about the VAR's alleged bias as a Luton Town supporter.

In their statement, Forest criticized the decisions made by the officials, labeling them as "extremely poor" and emphasizing that three clear penalty incidents were overlooked. The club revealed that they had raised their apprehensions about the VAR's affiliations with Luton Town to the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) before the game but felt ignored.

The FA has initiated an investigation into Nottingham Forest's post-match comments. The disappointing result against Everton leaves Forest precariously positioned in 17th place in the Premier League, just one point ahead of Luton Town in the relegation zone.

Forest's league standing has been further compromised by a four-point deduction in March due to breaching the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules, a penalty which the club has contested through an appeal process.
