Alexis Becca Becca, a player for Nice, found himself in a distressing situation when he threatened to jump off a bridge in his hometown near Nice, France, after experiencing a recent breakup with his partner. The 22-year-old midfielder was grappling with the pain of heartbreak, which led him to contemplate suicide by leaping from the bridge.
Swift action was taken by multiple rescue teams, including specialized police negotiators, who rushed to the scene to prevent Becca from taking such a drastic step. The incident caused the closure of one lane of the road while the rescue operation unfolded.
In response to the situation, Nice sent a psychologist to assist and players from the team, led by Capren Thuram, attempted to connect with Becca to persuade him to reconsider. Thankfully, their efforts were successful, and Becca decided not to go through with the act.
Following the incident, Nice made the decision to cancel their scheduled training sessions and press conferences due to the sensitivity of the situation. The team, currently ranked second in France ahead of PSG, had a match against Brest scheduled for Sunday.
Becca's journey in professional football has seen him grow from his roots in Cannes, where he also dabbled in media for two years. He later joined Lokomotiv Moscow before making the move to Nice in the summer of 2022.
In the previous season, he played 13 games for the club and scored a memorable goal against Maccabi Tel Aviv in the Conference League qualifiers, an event remembered by football fans in Israel. In 2021, he also represented the French national team at the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
