Neymar seeks Paris Saint-Germain transfer due to uncertainty, lack of player protection

Posted : 08 August 2023
Amid swirling reports of his "willingness to adapt for a Barcelona return" and potential inclusion in the Dembele deal, L'Equipe has divulged that the Brazilian star arrived at a decision following a meeting with Pini Zahavi. It's rumored that Chelsea is also considering their options.

Despite Neymar's assertions of his commitment to Paris Saint-Germain for the upcoming season, a sense of uncertainty lingers – reminiscent of his previous situation. L'Equipe unveiled on Monday evening that Neymar has conveyed his desire to leave the club during the current transfer window.

The Brazilian is reportedly still troubled by an incident last May when Paris Saint-Germain supporters staged a protest outside his residence. He perceives a lack of adequate player protection from the club and deems the rift between him and the Ultras insurmountable.

Subsequent to Paris Saint-Germain's pre-season journey to Asia, Neymar and his family convened with renowned super-agent Pini Zahavi. Together, they came to a consensus that it would be best for Neymar to seek a move to another team. This decision has already been communicated to club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi.

A telling snapshot was posted on Neymar's father's Instagram account, featuring himself, Neymar, and Pini Zahavi. The Israeli agent orchestrated Neymar's move to Paris Saint-Germain in 2017, setting the record for the world's most expensive player. Now, there's a talk of a potential reversal, pointing back towards Camp Nou.

Brazilian media sources suggest that Neymar, under contract with Paris Saint-Germain until 2027, might be willing to relinquish his contract to facilitate a cost-free transfer to Barcelona. Reports from Catalonia indicate he could also agree to a significantly reduced salary at the Spanish club, deviating from the substantial sums he is accustomed to, all in an effort to aid the financial maneuver.

Although President Joan Laporta is reportedly keen on welcoming Neymar back, coach Xavi remains skeptical about the impact on the team. The impending departure of Ousmane Dembele, who appears close to joining Paris Saint-Germain, could potentially smooth the path for Neymar's potential move. This could establish Neymar in Dembele's slot, forming a formidable attack alongside Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha.

Conversely, French outlet RMC suggests that Paris Saint-Germain is open to parting ways with Neymar. However, the likelihood of him rejoining Barcelona appears slim, with Chelsea emerging as a viable alternative. Representatives from Neymar's camp have reportedly engaged with Chelsea in recent months. It was previously reported in May, in France, that Pini Zahavi was actively working towards Neymar's transfer to Chelsea.

Neymar's previous season commenced impressively, but an ankle injury following the World Cup break kept him sidelined from February until just recently. Four days ago, he made his return in a friendly match against South Korea's Jeonbuk, demonstrating his prowess with a brace and an assist.

Having previously played for Barcelona from 2013 to 2017, Neymar was part of the unforgettable treble under the tutelage of Luis Enrique in 2015. Coincidentally, Enrique now manages Paris Saint-Germain. Neymar's potential departure could have significant implications for the French champions, who have already lost Lionel Messi and are grappling with the Kylian Mbappe saga.
