Neymar's contract with Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal has been terminated by mutual agreement, ending his brief stint with the club. The Brazilian star, who joined Al-Hilal in August 2023 for €90m (£77.6m), managed only seven appearances due to persistent injuries.
Despite his record-breaking €222m transfer to Paris Saint-Germain in 2017, Neymar has played just twice this season, with his last outing as a substitute in November 2023. He has been linked with a potential return to Santos, where his professional career began.
Al-Hilal acknowledged Neymar’s contributions and wished him well in a statement, as the player departs with around seven months left on his two-year deal reportedly worth €150m (£129.2m) annually.
Neymar had initially expressed a desire to "write new sporting history" in Saudi Arabia but suffered a major setback when he ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament during Brazil's World Cup qualifier against Uruguay in October 2023. After recovering and briefly returning to action, he has not played since his second match back, further plagued by fitness concerns.
The 32-year-old began his career at Santos, scoring 136 goals in 225 matches before moving to Barcelona in 2013. In Spain, he won two La Liga titles, the Champions League, and the Club World Cup, before joining PSG at 25.
During his time in Paris, Neymar secured five league titles and surpassed Pelé as Brazil's all-time leading male scorer with 78 international goals. However, injuries have kept him out of action for both club and country since 2023.
