Messi's suspension is not influenced by Galtier

Posted : 05 May 2023
The manager of Paris St. Germain, Christophe Galtier, has denounced player demonstrations outside players' houses and claims he had "nothing to do" with Lionel Messi's ban.

Messi, the captain of Argentina, was given a two-week suspension by the team for traveling to Saudi Arabia without permission.
Following Sunday's home loss to Lorient for the Ligue 1 leaders, protests were held.

PSG is no longer in the Champions League after losing three of their last six league games.

"Leo's ban has led to bad performances, and we can't hide behind that," said Galtier.

"The decision was nothing to do with me. I was informed of the decision.

"I can't say it has been a pleasant period."

On Wednesday, supporters gathered outside the Brazilian striker Neymar's house and chanted for him to quit the team.

The club increased security at the residences of Messi, Neymar, Italy midfielder Marco Verratti, Galtier, as well as at the team's practice facility as a result of the supporters' activities.

"Regarding the protests in front of a player's home, we have to be careful with that. Private life must remain private," said Galtier.

"I can understand the anger, the disappointment of our fans. You may protest at the training ground or at the PSG office or after a match at the Parc des Princes but I cannot accept it at anyone's house.

"There is a lot of these things happening at the moment, and they can be uncontrollable and dangerous"

While Neymar, 31, is out for the remainder of the season due to an ankle injury, Messi, 35, will depart PSG at the conclusion of his contract in the summer.
