Police have informed the Mercedes Formula 1 team that no criminal actions were committed by the sender of an email alleging sabotage of Lewis Hamilton's car. The email, which was anonymously sent to Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff, as well as senior figures in Formula 1 and media members, prompted Mercedes to involve law enforcement.
According to a spokesperson from Northamptonshire Police, they received a report on June 12 regarding the email circulated within the Mercedes AMG F1 Team. After investigation, no criminal offenses were found, but the team was advised on handling any future similar communications.
The email had suggested that Hamilton's car was being deliberately compromised by the team due to his decision to join Ferrari in 2025. Toto Wolff dismissed these claims as unfounded and asserted his commitment, alongside Hamilton, to concluding their partnership on a positive note.
Wolff indicated that Mercedes does not believe the email originated from within their team, though its source remains unidentified. At the recent Spanish Grand Prix, Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur condemned the allegations in the email as irrational, emphasizing the intense competition in Formula 1 and dismissing any notion that a team would sabotage their own car.
