Manchester United Set to Part Ways with Manager Erik ten Hag Following FA Cup Final

Posted : 25 May 2024

Manchester United is reportedly set to part ways with manager Erik ten Hag after the FA Cup final against Manchester City, irrespective of the outcome, according to The Guardian. The decision reflects the club's dissatisfaction with their performance this season, marked by a dismal eighth-place finish in the Premier League, their lowest since 1990, and an early exit from the Champions League group stage. Ten Hag's potential departure echoes the swift exit of fellow Dutchman Louis van Gaal, who was sacked just two days after winning the FA Cup final against Crystal Palace in 2016.

Despite speculation surrounding Ten Hag's future, Manchester United has yet to confirm any decision, insisting on a full review following the FA Cup final clash with City. The club has been linked with several potential successors, including Thomas Tuchel, Mauricio Pochettino, Gareth Southgate, and Kieran McKenna.

United goalkeeper Andre Onana, who played under Ten Hag at Ajax, expressed support for his manager, describing him as tactically astute and emphasizing the challenges faced by the team this season due to injuries and underperformance.

For Manchester United, the FA Cup final represents an opportunity to salvage their season with a shot at silverware and a route to Europa League qualification. Onana acknowledged the significance of ending the season on a positive note, highlighting the importance of securing a victory against their rivals. Despite the challenges faced, Onana remains optimistic about the team's potential and the opportunity to finish the season on a high note with a win in the final.
