Manchester United Reports Sixth Straight Annual Loss

Posted : 17 September 2025

Manchester United announced on Wednesday that it has recorded an annual net loss for the sixth year in a row, underlining the Premier League club’s continued financial challenges. The club reported a £33 million ($45 million) deficit for the year ending June 30, an improvement compared to the £113.2 million loss recorded in the previous year. The reduced shortfall reflects ongoing cost-cutting strategies designed to stabilise finances after a period of lacklustre performance both on the pitch and commercially.

Looking ahead, United forecast revenue between £640 million and £660 million for fiscal 2026, down from the £666.5 million generated in the most recent financial year. The projection highlights ongoing revenue pressures despite the club’s global profile and commercial reach.

The Premier League has tightened its Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) in recent years to restrict overspending by clubs and enforce financial discipline. Since fiscal 2023, Manchester United has accumulated losses of around £175 million, well above the £105 million cap set for a rolling three-year period. However, the club stressed that investments in infrastructure, youth academies, women’s football, and charitable projects are excluded from the calculation.

In its statement, the club maintained that it continues to comply with both the Premier League’s PSR and UEFA’s Financial Fair Play regulations, even as it works to balance financial stability with the demands of competing at the highest level.
