Manchester United open to permanent transfer of Harry Maguire

According to reports, Manchester United are blocking any potential loan move for Harry Maguire to Newcastle, but they are open to discussing a permanent transfer. Despite being the club captain, the England international defender has slipped down the pecking order at Old Trafford, making only 16 Premier League appearances in the 2022-23 season. As a result, he has attracted interest from clubs like Newcastle, Tottenham, and Aston Villa.
 
Report states that Newcastle had expressed interest in a loan deal, but Manchester United is unwilling to strengthen a top-four rival without receiving financial compensation. Therefore, if Newcastle wants to pursue a transfer, they will need to pay a significant transfer fee.
 
Although Maguire reportedly wants to stay at Manchester United and compete for a more regular role under manager Erik ten Hag, the club is aiming to generate funds from player sales to be able to compete for other targets, such as Napoli center-half Kim Min-jae.
