Manchester United offers €50 million for Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana

Posted : 07 July 2023
Sources report that Manchester United has increased their offer for Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana to a total of €50 million ($54 million), consisting of €45 million plus an additional €5 million in add-ons. This improved bid has sparked growing confidence at Old Trafford that a deal can be reached.

Previously, Inter had rejected United's initial offer of €40 million ($43.4 million), deeming it insufficient to allow Onana's departure. However, with the increased bid of €10 million, United is approaching Inter's valuation of €60 million.

All parties involved in the negotiation now believe that a compromise can be reached, paving the way for Onana to join Manchester United, following in the footsteps of Mason Mount.

Manager Erik ten Hag is actively seeking a new goalkeeper due to the ongoing uncertainty surrounding David de Gea's future. United is still planning face-to-face talks with De Gea to discuss his contract situation, although the club understands that he may not wish to be the second choice if Onana signs.

As United's non-international players returned to preseason training, De Gea was notably absent. The 32-year-old is currently a free agent after his contract expired on June 30.

Ten Hag, who previously worked with Onana during their time at Ajax, has identified the Cameroon international as his primary goalkeeping target for this transfer window.

Despite Ten Hag's strong interest, United is hesitant to meet Inter's valuation due to the need to allocate funds for signing a striker. The club has shifted its focus from pursuing Harry Kane, primarily due to Tottenham's valuation of over £100 million. Instead, they have directed their attention towards Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta and Randal Kolo Muani from Eintracht Frankfurt.

Financial fair play concerns have limited Ten Hag's summer transfer budget, and the club aims to achieve a net spend ranging from £100 million to £150 million.
