Jurgen Klopp: Liverpool manager receives a two-game suspension for comments about Paul Tierney
Posted : 20 May 2023
Following his team's 4-3 victory against Tottenham in April, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp made some remarks regarding referee Paul Tierney, for which he was given a two-match suspension.
The German will thus be unable to attend Sunday's game at Anfield against Aston Villa.
Klopp won't be absent from the last contest of this season against Southampton since the second game is postponed until the conclusion of the 2023–24 campaign.
After the Spurs match, Klopp said Tierney had "something against" the Reds.
Additionally, he was fined £75,000 after admitting to inappropriate behaviour and expressing sorrow for his remarks.
Following Liverpool's 94th-minute victory, Klopp was given a yellow card for celebrating in front of the fourth official. He later claimed Tierney's comments to him were "not OK."
Professional Game Match Officials Limited, the organisation that regulates referees, stated at the time that it "strongly refutes" any claims that Tierney's conduct were "improper."
