John Obot shatters read-aloud Guinness World Record
Posted : 19 September 2023
John Obot, hailing from Akwa Ibom State in Nigeria, has shattered the previous Guinness World Record for the longest continuous read-aloud event by lasting for 145 hours.
He exceeded the prior record of 124 hours, set by Indian Rysbai Isakov.
Obot began his record-breaking feat on September 12, 2023, at Watbridge Hotels & Suites' Cityview Hall in Uyo, despite initial challenges with equipment and electricity that disrupted his first 45-hour attempt.
Celebrating his achievement on September 18, 2023, an elated Obot announced he would keep reading until 10 pm that evening.
Prominent officials including Akon Eyakenyi, the Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State, and other state dignitaries were present to cheer him on.
The crowd counted down the seconds as he approached the 145-hour mark.
Uyo Book Club, led by Dr. Udeme Nana, supported the 'Readmania' event.
John Obot, a teacher and the son of late journalist John Obot, received widespread admiration and support during his marathon reading session.
