‘I Don’t Know When I’ll Play Again’ says Rafael Nadal Dashes Monte Carlo Comeback Expectations
Posted : 11 April 2023
Rafael Nadal has said he won't make a comeback at the Monte Carlo Masters in April and has refused to give a timetable for it.
The 22-time Grand Slam champion hasn't played since losing to Mackenzie McDonald in the second round of the Australian Open. Following that match, examinations revealed a left leg muscle problem.
Nadal pulled from Indian Wells and the Miami Open to focus on getting back to full health, but the Monte Carlo Masters stated that Nadal was "absolutely able to win his 12th trophy in Monte Carlo despite of his latest injury," raising optimism of an impending comeback.
Nadal has since refuted the notion that a comeback is likely.
“I don't know who gets this information,” he said, as reported by Marca.
“Obviously if it were true, I would confirm it, but unfortunately I can't. I'm following my course and I don't know when I'll play again, that's the truth.
“I'm in a phase of increasing work. If I knew when I was going to return, I would say so, but I don't know. I can't confirm that I will play in Monte Carlo, things are seen day by day. I prefer to say things when I really know them.”
From 8 to 16 April, the Monte Carlo Masters will mark the beginning of the clay court season, which has been so successful for Rafael Nadal throughout his career.
The next Grand Slam tournament of the year, Roland Garros, where the Spaniard has a record 14 titles won, is at the end of May, and he will be aiming for it.
