Graham Potter: One Day After Being Defeated by Aston Villa, Chelsea Fires Head Coach
Posted : 12 April 2023
Graham Potter, who had just been Chelsea's head coach for seven months, has been fired. Former Brighton defender Bruno Saltor has been named as Chelsea's interim head coach.
Potter signed a five-year contract on September 8 to take over as Thomas Tuchel's replacement, but he ended his journey with the club just seven months later after winning just seven of his 22 Premier League matches.
Ben Roberts and Bjorn Hamberg, two assistant coaches, will continue to work alongside interim head coach Bruno Saltor.
Chelsea lost 2-0 to Aston Villa at home on Saturday night, dropping the Blues to 11th in the Premier League standings and 12 points behind fourth-placed Manchester United.
Later this month, Chelsea will play Real Madrid in the quarterfinals of the Champions League. Potter's departure comes as a result of Chelsea's loss to Real Madrid.
