French midfielder Kante signs Belgian Royal Excelsior Virton
Posted : 30 June 2023
On Thursday, it was announced that French midfielder N'Golo Kante has acquired Belgian third-tier club Royal Excelsior Virton. This news comes shortly after Kante completed a lucrative transfer to Saudi Arabian club Al Ittihad. The club confirmed that Kante will take control of Virton on July 1, following the decision of current owner Flavio Becca to sell the club.
In an official statement, the club expressed their satisfaction with Becca's decision to hand over the club to Kante, citing his exceptional footballing abilities and his renowned personal qualities.
Kante, driven by his passion for the sport, intends to continue developing the club, strengthening its foundations, stabilizing the staff, and reviving the tradition of training the youth academy of RE Virton. The club's objective is to establish strong local roots and become a prominent force in Gaume and the province of Luxembourg.
Virton experienced relegation from the second division, known as the Challenger Pro League, in the previous season and will compete in the third tier of Belgian football in the upcoming 2023-24 season.
In a similar vein, Crystal Palace forward Wilfried Zaha and rapper Stormzy also made headlines this week for their acquisition of ninth-tier English football club, Croydon Athletic. Additionally, former Palace head of player care Danny Young has joined them in purchasing a stake in the south London club.
