Football pays tribute to Israel-Gaza war victims with silence and armbands

Posted : 21 October 2023
Football players, supporters, and officials across the sport have paid their respects to those affected by the Israel-Gaza war. In a solemn show of solidarity, a moment of silence was observed before all Saturday's Premier League and English Football League fixtures. To further honor the victims and raise awareness, players, managers, and match officials at games throughout the divisions also donned black armbands.

In addition to the Premier League and EFL matches, a period of silence was observed before the early Women's Super League (WSL) match between Aston Villa and Tottenham. This collective tribute aimed to highlight the significance of the situation and offer a moment of reflection in the world of football.

Earlier in the week, Liverpool's Mohamed Salah, who had a standout performance in his team's win over Everton, used his influential platform to call for an end to the ongoing conflict. Salah urged world leaders to unite in their efforts to prevent further loss of innocent lives. The Premier League, in expressing its stance on the matter, strongly condemned the horrific and brutal acts of violence against innocent civilians in the Israel-Gaza conflict.
