FIFA Accuses UEFA of ‘Misinformation’ Campaign Over Infantino World Cup Plan

In a court filing in Florida, FIFA argued that UEFA’s request for documents related to the FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE) proposal was also aimed at influencing next year’s FIFA presidential election. FIFA rejected UEFA’s allegations that Infantino sought personal financial benefit from the plan and said the project was subject to approval and oversight by FIFA’s governing bodies.

The FFE proposal, unveiled in July, would have created a commercial subsidiary allowing private investors to acquire a stake in rights connected to the World Cup and other major FIFA competitions. The initiative was withdrawn after opposition from several football confederations, including UEFA, over concerns surrounding consultation and governance.

UEFA has been seeking documents and testimony for a potential criminal complaint in Switzerland concerning the abandoned proposal. UEFA has alleged that the plan was developed without proper consultation and that the proposed valuation undervalued FIFA’s commercial rights, claims FIFA has strongly disputed.

FIFA also disputed UEFA’s interpretation of the FFE valuation, saying the proposed equity valuation of about $20 billion did not represent the company’s total enterprise value, which FIFA said exceeded $30 billion. UEFA has declined to comment on FIFA’s latest court filing.

Infantino is seeking another term as FIFA president in the March 2027 election. He recently told FIFA’s 211 member associations that he would support the greatest level of additional funding that could responsibly be distributed from the organisation’s reserves.
