Ex-Leicester City player claims Awoniyi dominated Van Dijk in Liverpool vs. Forest match

Alan Rodgers, a Nottingham Forest legend, showers praise on Taiwo Awoniyi for his standout performance against Liverpool in their recent encounter. 

Despite Nottingham Forest's defeat in their attempt to climb out of the relegation zone, Awoniyi's contribution did not go unnoticed. 

Rodgers specifically mentions Awoniyi's impressive display in challenging and pressuring Virgil van Dijk of Liverpool.

Awoniyi, who has already netted five goals for the Reds this season, came tantalizingly close to adding another goal to his tally with a remarkable overhead kick that struck the Liverpool goalpost during the match.

Rodgers commends Awoniyi's inclusion in the squad, emphasizing the difficulties he created for the hosts during the game. 

The former Leicester City player acknowledges Awoniyi's impact and resilience despite the ultimate outcome of the match.

"They’ve missed him because he’s been out injured. He’s the battering ram in the team with Brennan Johnson and Morgan Gibbs-White usually at the side of him. I haven’t seen anyone bully Virgil van Dijk like that this season.

"The overhead kick was unlucky at the end as well. I thought Forest looked like a different side and I think it was like the shackles came off," Rogers said.
