Everton striker Youssef Chermiti will miss the start of the Premier League season following minor surgery on a foot injury, the club confirmed on Monday. The 20-year-old Portuguese forward sustained the injury during training and will now undergo rehabilitation under the supervision of Everton's medical team.
Chermiti had shown promising form in pre-season, making a notable impact by scoring two goals and providing an assist in a 3-3 draw against Sligo Rovers, and also featured as a substitute in a loss to Salford. Everton manager Sean Dyche described Chermiti's injury as "a bit of a blow," acknowledging the player's impressive pre-season performances and sharpness.
Dyche further noted that Chermiti's recovery will take longer than a couple of weeks, suggesting the striker will be sidelined for an extended period. As Everton, who finished 15th in the Premier League last season, prepare to start their new campaign at home against Brighton on August 17, the absence of Chermiti will be felt.
