Chairman of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye, has endorsed Anas Yusuf, the league’s top scorer, for a potential invitation to the Super Eagles.
Anas, who plays for Nasarawa United FC, finished the just-concluded 2024/25 NPFL season as the highest goal scorer with 18 goals.
Speaking to journalists, Elegbeleye—who also serves as the 2nd Vice President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF)—praised Anas’ performance, noting that he has the quality to represent Nigeria at the senior national level.
“The coach has the final say on player selection, but we are pleased with Anas’ performance,” Elegbeleye said. “We’re also happy that 11 NPFL players were invited to the Unity Cup—credit to Coach Eric Chelle.”
He continued:
“Chelle knows Anas’ potential and must have reasons for his current selections. However, I believe Yusuf’s time will come. The NFF leadership under Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau is aware, and hopefully, he’ll get his invitation very soon.”
