CRSFA Slams 2-Year Ban on Cynosure FC Over Match-Fixing Scandal

Posted : 21 June 2025

The Cross River State Football Association (CRSFA) has handed Cynosure FC of Abakaliki a two-year ban from all football activities following a confirmed match-fixing scandal in the ongoing Nationwide League One (NLO).

The club’s Chairman, Prince Chidiebere Nweze, was indicted by the Organising and Disciplinary Committee of CRSFA after an investigation into the manipulated fixture between Cynosure FC and May & Frank FC of Calabar.

The Head Coach of May & Frank FC, Udeme Alloy Ulor, has also received a two-year ban, with recommendations for further disciplinary action.

In a letter dated June 19 and signed by Greg Abang, Chairman of the CRSFA Organising and Disciplinary Committee, the panel stated that:

  • The match in question occurred on Monday, May 6, 2025, at the UJ Esuene Stadium, Calabar.
  • A recorded phone conversation between Coach Alloy and Chairman Nweze clearly revealed discussions about manipulating the result of the game.
  • An audio recording presented during the disciplinary hearing featured the coach’s voice, which he admitted was authentic.
  • Both parties were found to have conspired to influence the outcome of the NLO fixture.

Following these findings, the committee concluded that:

  • Coach Udeme Alloy violated the ethics and regulations of CRSFA, NLO, NFF, and FIFA by engaging in match manipulation.
  • He is banned for two years from all football-related activities within and outside the state.
  • The Nigerian Football Federation’s Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit is advised to consider additional sanctions under FIFA’s global ethical standards.

“This decision is made in good faith and without prejudice, in line with the Ethics and Rules of the Association,” the panel stated.

The scandal has raised concerns about integrity in grassroots football, and authorities are expected to increase monitoring to curb future incidents.
