Chelsea’s Mykhailo Mudryk Charged with Anti-Doping Violation, Faces Potential Four-Year Ban

Posted : 18 June 2025

Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk has been formally charged by the Football Association for violating anti-doping regulations following a failed drugs test last year. The Ukraine international, 24, has been under provisional suspension since December after a routine urine sample revealed an "adverse finding." Under FIFA’s anti-doping guidelines, players found to have intentionally used banned substances may receive suspensions of up to four years.

At the time of his suspension, Mudryk insisted he was in "complete shock" and strongly denied knowingly taking any performance-enhancing drugs. Since the failed test, the winger has not featured in any Chelsea matchday squad and has been barred from training with the team. Chelsea have publicly supported Mudryk throughout the process, including addressing his mental health needs, while continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the test.

The FA confirmed the charge on Wednesday, citing violations under sections 3 and 4 of its anti-doping regulations. While the case remains active, further details were not disclosed. Mudryk retains the right to request a B sample analysis. If that sample confirms the original result, he may either accept the charge and any resulting sanctions or request a formal hearing to contest the findings.

Mudryk joined Chelsea from Shakhtar Donetsk in January 2023 in a deal potentially worth £89 million and is contracted to the club until 2031. Despite flashes of potential, he has struggled for consistency, scoring 10 goals in 73 appearances. His long-term future now hangs in the balance as he faces the most serious challenge of his professional career.
