Chelsea and Nottingham Forest face charges from the Football Association following a pitchside scuffle between players during their 1-1 Premier League draw on Sunday. The incident began when Forest's Neco Williams made a challenge that sent Chelsea's Marc Cucurella sprawling into the technical area, knocking over Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca. Tensions quickly escalated, with several players, including some from the benches, joining the melee before referee Chris Kavanagh managed to restore order.
The altercation contributed to a particularly heated match, which saw a total of 11 yellow cards issued. The FA's statement explained the charges, noting that both teams allegedly failed to prevent their players from acting in an "improper and/or provocative way" near the 88th minute. This behavior led to heightened emotions among both squads, which spilled over into the pitchside confrontation.
Both Chelsea and Nottingham Forest have until Thursday, October 10, to respond to the charges. The FA will review their responses before determining any further action or penalties.
