Borussia Dortmund Target Permanent Move for Carney Chukwuemeka

German giants Borussia Dortmund are reportedly working towards a permanent transfer for Carney Chukwuemeka, the English midfielder of Nigerian heritage currently on loan from Chelsea FC.

Chukwuemeka joined Dortmund on a temporary deal earlier in the year and has shown glimpses of his talent, prompting the Bundesliga club to explore the possibility of making the move permanent ahead of the 2025/26 season.

According to sources close to the negotiations, Dortmund are impressed with the 21-year-old’s potential and are willing to activate the €35 million buy option included in his loan agreement, provided they secure qualification for European competition next season.

Despite a few injury setbacks during his spell, Chukwuemeka’s performances, most notably in Dortmund’s dominant 6-0 win over Union Berlin—have caught the attention of head coach and sporting directors alike. His ability to adapt quickly to the Bundesliga and contribute in midfield has made him a strong candidate for a long-term role at Signal Iduna Park.

However, conflicting reports suggest that the final decision could depend on Dortmund’s summer transfer priorities and whether they meet their continental qualification goals. Should they fall short, the club may look to alternative targets to strengthen their midfield.

Chukwuemeka, who joined Chelsea from Aston Villa in 2022, is widely regarded as one of England’s brightest young prospects. Of Nigerian descent, he remains eligible to represent either England or Nigeria at senior international level, having already featured for England’s youth teams.
