Benjamin Mendy takes former club Manchester City to tribunal over alleged wage deductions

Former Manchester City player Benjamin Mendy is taking his ex-club to an employment tribunal over alleged unauthorized wage deductions totaling millions of pounds. Mendy, who left City at the end of his contract this summer after being cleared of rape and attempted rape charges, claims the club stopped paying him in September 2021 when he was initially charged and held in custody. The case, described as a "multi-million pound claim," is set to be heard in 2024, with Mendy currently playing for Ligue 1 club Lorient.
Leading UK sports lawyer Nick De Marco is representing Mendy in the case against Manchester City. The alleged wage deductions occurred after Mendy was charged and held in custody in September 2021. Despite being cleared of all charges in January 2022, Mendy claims that City continued to withhold his wages. The employment tribunal is expected to address the financial dispute, and Mendy's case is scheduled to be heard in 2024.
After joining City from Monaco in a £52 million deal in 2017, Mendy won three Premier League titles with the club. He left City at the end of his contract and joined Lorient at the beginning of the current season. The French full-back, now seeking compensation from City, had faced legal issues but was cleared of all charges earlier this year.
