Barcelona and La Liga discussed a potential Messi return from PSG
Posted : 29 April 2023
Xavi Hernandez disclosed that Barcelona and La Liga had discussions on Lionel Messi's potential transfer from Ligue 1.
The Catalan powerhouses are still keen in bringing back their legend, who left the team in 2021 to sign a free transfer with Paris Saint-Germain.
Additionally, Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez now confirms that the club is in discussions with league executives regarding the Argentine's return for the upcoming season.
Xavi, while speaking to reporters, said:
"Yes [Barcelona met with La Liga], but not only for the possible arrival of Leo. We’ll see in order to improve the squad for next year, but it is not the important issue; there is still a league to win.
"Tomorrow we have a key game and this is the important issue. This is a matter of Mateu (Alemany) and he informs us, but, in theory, everything is going well. In the end, we don’t know if it’s going to happen or not. It’s very soon to talk about it. We are focused on the match against Betis and on winning La Liga, which would give us a lot of stability. We will talk about possible signings."
Xavi said that, although if the club is currently working on a number of moves, including Messi's return, the team's main priority is still winning the championship this year.
Barcelona is in the driving seat to win the championship despite the club's shocking loss to Rayo Vallecano in the middle of the week due to their commanding 11 point advantage at the top of the standings.
