Atlético Madrid Launches Initial Contact Over Ademola Lookman

Atlético Madrid have opened preliminary discussions over a potential summer transfer for Nigerian international Ademola Lookman, as the Spanish club intensifies efforts to bolster its attacking options ahead of the 2025/2026 season.

Sources close to the negotiations reveal that the La Liga outfit has made initial contact with Atalanta regarding Lookman, whose impressive performances in Serie A have drawn attention from several top European clubs. The 27-year-old forward registered 14 goals and 7 assists across all competitions last season, solidifying his reputation as one of the most dynamic attackers in Italian football.

Atlético are believed to be exploring forward reinforcements amid growing uncertainty over the future of Antoine Griezmann, who is reportedly considering a move to Major League Soccer. Lookman is among a shortlist of potential replacements that includes Lautaro Martínez and Alexander Isak. However, the Nigerian is viewed as a more attainable target in terms of both availability and transfer fee.

Lookman, who is under contract with Atalanta until 2026, played a key role in the club’s domestic and European campaigns. Atalanta are not actively looking to sell but could be open to a deal should a suitable offer be tabled.

The player’s versatility, pace, and creativity make him a strong fit for Diego Simeone’s system, which demands high work rate and tactical awareness from its forwards.
