AS Roma fined for ball boy delay as Mourinho receives touchline ban

Serie A has imposed a €10,000 fine on AS Roma for a deliberate delay caused by their ball boys during Sunday's league match against Monza. The game concluded dramatically with a 1-0 victory for Jose Mourinho's team, thanks to Stephan El Shaarawy's 90th-minute winning goal.
Italy's sports judge determined that Roma's ball boys intentionally slowed down the game's restart after the home side's goal, resulting in an additional two minutes of injury time. This decision was outlined in a league statement.
As a consequence of his actions, Mourinho received a one-game touchline ban after he was sent off near the end of the match for mocking Monza's bench with a crying gesture. Consequently, Mourinho will not be on the sidelines for Roma's upcoming league fixture against his former club, Inter Milan.
Notably, Mourinho has expressed strong opinions about ball boys in the past. While managing Tottenham Hotspur, he commended an intelligent ball boy for a quick assist that led to a crucial goal, but he has also criticized slow reactions from ball boys at Old Trafford during his time at Manchester United. His history of interactions with ball boys varies, reflecting his emphasis on their role in the game.
