Romelu Lukaku's one-match suspension was confirmed on Friday, and Inter Milan expressed their displeasure, claiming the player was penalized despite receiving racial insults during their Coppa Italia quarterfinal match against Juventus.
After the club's appeal was denied by Italy's Sports Court Of Appeal, Lukaku will continue to be suspended for the second match against Juventus on Wednesday. He was dismissed in the first leg of the semifinal.
"FC Internazionale Milano feels it must consolidate its support for the player and expresses great sorrow at the fact that the victim has become the only guilty party," Inter said in a statement.
According to the player's representation, the Belgian striker experienced racist taunts against Juventus during the first leg "before, during, and after the penalty" he had converted to give Inter a 1-1 draw.
After collecting a second yellow card for his goal celebration, which including holding his finger to his lips in front of Juve supporters, which was deemed offensive, Lukaku was sent off.
After hearing racial slurs from the Tribuna Sud section of their stadium, Juventus was told to close it. However, this decision was subsequently reversed after the club filed an appeal.
