The match was riddled with controversial decisions: questionable calls, ignored fouls, and a general lack of consistency from the referees. Frustrated and fed up, FWC Champions FC players halted play and sat on the pitch in protest, making a bold statement against the perceived injustice, in full view of fans and league officials.
This wasn’t an isolated incident. Teams have consistently complained about biased and inconsistent officiating throughout the competition. On Match Day 2, a game between City FC and Campro FC was halted for over five minutes as Campro FC players protested questionable penalties, the third awarded to City FC in that match alone.
Additionally, several team coaches have expressed strong dissatisfaction with the quality of officiating during the tournament.
The protest in Kaduna now serves as a loud call for the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to investigate the events at the ABS Kaduna Centre over the past four days — a period marked by unrest, dissatisfaction, and multiple protests. The growing officiating concerns are not only disrupting matches but also damaging the reputation of Nigerian grassroots football.
The NFF is urged to take swift action to restore integrity, trust, and fairness to the game.
