Belgian club Zulte Waregem have completed the signing of Nigerian youngster Maliq Musa Omotayo. The 17-year-old attacker reportedly passed his medical examination before joining his new teammates for training with the Belgian club.
Omotayo, who is also known as Musa Malik, moves to Europe after developing with Ikorodu City in the Nigeria Premier Football League. Ikorodu City officially registered Musa Malik from their academy in February 2025 as one of five academy players added to the senior squad.
The youngster was born in Oyo State on August 17, 2008. He is primarily a left winger and can also operate on the right side of attack; his profile lists him at 1.83 metres and as a right-footed player.
Omotayo gained valuable first-team experience with Ikorodu City during the 2025/26 NPFL season. Available statistics show that he made 11 league appearances, scored once and provided one assist, while he also made four appearances during the previous campaign.
His performances had already attracted attention before the move to Belgium. Omotayo scored Ikorodu City's first goal in a 4-2 defeat to Niger Tornadoes in September 2025, showing his attacking threat despite the team's eventual loss.
The teenager also played an important role during Ikorodu City's development of young players. He was part of the club's academy pathway before making his senior debut in January 2025, aged 16.
Omotayo's move to Zulte Waregem now gives him an opportunity to continue his development within Belgian football. The club has a reputation for developing young players, while the move gives the Nigerian a chance to experience European football at an important stage of his career.
Reports have also linked the youngster with interest from Spanish giants Barcelona. However, there has been no official confirmation from Barcelona regarding a transfer or formal approach for the Nigerian.
For Zulte Waregem, the signing represents an investment in a young attacking player with experience in Nigerian top-flight football. Omotayo will now compete for opportunities while adapting to the demands of Belgian football.
The move is another important step for the teenager after his rapid rise through Ikorodu City's academy and senior team. His progress in Belgium will be closely monitored as he looks to establish himself in European football.
