Zanzibar Secures Africa Elite Series Hosting Rights from 2027 to 2029

Posted : 27 October 2026

Zanzibar has secured hosting rights for the Africa Elite Series for three consecutive years, covering the period from 2027 to 2029. The agreement is expected to strengthen the island's position as a destination for African football clubs preparing for their domestic and continental campaigns.

The arrangement involves the Zanzibar Government, the Zanzibar Football Federation and The Return Pass Consult. The partners aim to use the tournament to support football development and attract clubs, investors and other stakeholders from across Africa.

The inaugural edition under the agreement is scheduled to run from July 31 to August 8, 2027. The competition is expected to bring together leading African clubs and key figures in the football industry for pre-season activities ahead of the new campaign.

For participating teams, the tournament will provide an opportunity to assess players, improve tactical organisation and build match fitness before competitive fixtures begin. It could also offer coaches a platform to evaluate new signings and prepare their squads for domestic leagues and continental competitions.

The event is also expected to support youth development, coaching education and the use of football technology. These initiatives could create opportunities for local players, coaches and administrators to gain experience and improve their skills.

Beyond the pitch, the tournament will give Zanzibar an opportunity to promote its tourism attractions and sporting infrastructure to visiting teams and international football stakeholders. The organisers also expect the competition to attract sporting investment and encourage stronger partnerships across the African football industry.

The Africa Elite Series was launched as a platform combining elite club competition with coaching workshops, youth activities, football technology and commercial opportunities. The Zanzibar hosting agreement is intended to help establish the tournament as a regular feature of the continent's pre-season calendar.

With the hosting rights secured through 2029, Zanzibar will have three editions to build the competition's profile and demonstrate its capacity to attract leading clubs. The inaugural tournament in July and August 2027 will mark the beginning of that long-term arrangement.
