Zaidu Sanusi Attracts Al-Qadsiah Interest as Porto Contract Talks Stall

Super Eagles defender Zaidu Sanusi has emerged as a transfer target for Saudi Pro League club Al-Qadsiah. The Nigerian left-back could leave FC Porto this summer after negotiations over a new contract stalled.

Al-Qadsiah have reportedly held talks with Porto over a possible transfer for the 29-year-old defender. The Saudi club are looking to strengthen at left-back and have identified Sanusi as one of their targets.

Sanusi is entering the final year of his current Porto contract. Reports indicate that discussions over a proposed two-year extension have stalled because of differences over his salary demands.

Porto are now believed to be open to selling the defender rather than risk losing him without a transfer fee. Reports from AfricaFoot indicate that the Portuguese club could demand around €10 million for his departure.

The situation marks a change in Porto's position. The Portuguese club had been interested in retaining the experienced defender, but the lack of progress in contract negotiations has created uncertainty over his future.

Sanusi joined Porto from Santa Clara in August 2020. He has since established himself as an experienced member of the squad and has won several domestic trophies with the Portuguese giants.

His honours with Porto include two Portuguese Cups, two Portuguese Super Cups and the 2022-23 Portuguese League Cup. He also played a key role in Porto's 2022 league title triumph, scoring the decisive goal against Benfica that secured the championship.

Sanusi remains a Nigeria international and has continued to feature for the Super Eagles. Current player records list him as a left-back for Porto, with his contract running until June 2027.

The reported interest from Al-Qadsiah could give Sanusi an opportunity to continue his career in the growing Saudi Pro League. The club have already opened discussions with Porto, although no agreement has been confirmed between the two clubs.

For Porto, the decision will centre on whether to keep Sanusi for the final year of his contract or accept a transfer fee this summer. For the Nigerian defender, the next stage of negotiations could determine whether his six-year spell in Portugal comes to an end.
