Wydad Athletic Club (Wydad AC), based in Casablanca, Morocco, has solidified its status as a powerhouse in African football. Established in 1937, the club boasts an impressive domestic record, including 22 Botola Pro league titles, nine Moroccan Throne Cups, and four Moroccan Elite Cups, making it the most decorated club in the country.
Their continental achievements are equally notable, with three CAF Champions League titles, the most recent secured in the 2021–22 season. In that campaign, under the guidance of coach Walid Regragui, Wydad AC triumphed over Egypt's Al Ahly with a 2–0 victory in the final held at Stade Mohammed V in Casablanca, thanks to a brace from Zouhair El Moutaraji.
This continental success has earned Wydad AC a spot in the expanded 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, set to take place in the United States from June 15 to July 13. They are placed in Group G alongside European champions Manchester City, Italian giants Juventus, and UAE's Al Ain FC. The top two teams from each group will advance to the knockout stages, with the final scheduled at MetLife Stadium in New York on July 13.
Currently managed by South African coach Rhulani Mokwena, who took the helm in July 2024, Wydad AC continues to build on its rich legacy. Key players such as winger Nassim Chadli, along with attackers Hamza Sakhi, Walid Nassi, and Mohamed Rayhi, are expected to play pivotal roles in the team's performance. As they prepare to face formidable opponents on the global stage, Wydad AC aims to showcase the strength and talent of African club football.
