WSL Weekend Roundup: Manchester United's dominance, Chelsea's command, Aston Villa's first win

Posted : 12 November 2023
Manchester United dominated West Ham with a resounding 5-0 victory, continuing their unbeaten streak to six games in the Women's Super League. Five different scorers contributed to their triumph, propelling The Red Devils to an impressive start to the season. Goals from Geyse, Millie Turner, Nikita Parris, Lucia Garcia, and Melvine Malard secured a convincing win, leaving West Ham reeling from both the scoreline and the loss of key players due to injury in the first half.

Champions Chelsea maintained their own unbeaten start with a 3-0 win against Everton. Jessie Fleming's early goal and subsequent strikes from Sam Kerr and Aggie Beever-Jones sealed their victory. The Blues' impressive form continues, having won four consecutive matches, showcasing their dominance with a goal tally of 15 against their opponents' two in this impressive run, maintaining their four-point lead at the top of the league.

In another surprising turn, Brighton secured a 1-0 upset victory against Manchester City, who suffered their second consecutive defeat. Lee Geum-min's sole goal handed Brighton their second win of the season, shaking up City's recent form. Meanwhile, Tottenham faced a stern test against Liverpool, culminating in a 1-1 draw. Despite an opener by Celin Bizet for Tottenham and a response from Liverpool's Sophie Roman Haug, neither side managed to clinch the win, resulting in a hard-earned point for Spurs.

Aston Villa secured their first win of the season with two late goals against Bristol City, lifting them off the bottom of the table. A Megan Connolly own goal and a clever finish by Ebony Salmon ensured Villa's ascent in the standings, displacing Bristol City to the 12th position.
