Wikki Tourists head coach Abdullahi Maikaba has urged his players to demonstrate attitude, commitment, and belief as the Bauchi Elephants prepare for a crucial Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 21 showdown against Plateau United FC.
The North Central derby is set to take place at the Jos Township Stadium, where Wikki Tourists will face a Plateau United side desperate for points to avoid relegation. Currently 16th on the NPFL table, the Bauchi-based club is eager to return to winning ways after a narrow 1–0 defeat to fellow league returnees Warri Wolves in their last match.
The loss extended a troubling run of form for Wikki Tourists, who have failed to win in their last four league outings, recording three draws and one defeat since the resumption of the second stanza of the season.
For hosts Plateau United, the stakes are equally high. The Peace Boys sit 19th, deep in the relegation zone, and face a must-win situation to keep their survival hopes alive. In response to poor results, Plateau United recently relieved Shola Ayeni of his duties and appointed experienced tactician Gbenga Ogunbote as Technical Adviser. The former Shooting Stars SC coach will be looking to make an immediate impact in his new role.
Despite Plateau United’s renewed optimism, Maikaba insists his team has what it takes to secure an upset. “Tomorrow’s game is about attitude, commitment, and belief,” he said. “We have asked the players to put the last result behind them and approach the match like a World Cup final. Victory is achievable if we truly believe.”
Head-to-Head:
With both sides desperate for points and pride on the line, Saturday’s clash promises to be a fiercely contested North Central derby, where fine margins could determine the outcome.
