Racing Genk striker Tolu Arokodare is one of four players yet to join the Super Eagles training camp in London ahead of their upcoming Unity Cup match against Ghana’s Black Stars.
Alongside Arokodare, goalkeeper Maduka Okoye from Udinese, midfielder Christantus Uche of Getafe, and Tanzanian-based keeper Amas Obasogie have not yet reported to the squad.
Arokodare’s late arrival is linked to his club duties, as he attended the Pro League Awards ceremony in Antwerp on Monday evening, where he was nominated for Player of the Season.
The 24-year-old striker finished third in the voting, behind Club Brugge’s Ardon Jashari and Hans Vanaken, but he secured the top scorer award for his 21 goals in the recent Jupiler Pro League season.
This achievement places him in the company of fellow Nigerian Paul Onuachu, who has previously won the same accolade.
The Pro League Awards are held annually after the playoffs to honor the best performers in Belgium’s top division, as chosen by players and coaches.
Meanwhile, the Super Eagles began their preparations on Monday with a training session at Hanwell Town FC, led by head coach Eric Chelle, while Arokodare is expected to catch up with teammates Kelechi Iheanacho, Ahmed Musa, and Sikiru Alimi already in camp.
