West Ham announced the signing of 20-year-old Brighton striker Evan Ferguson on loan until the end of the season on Monday. The Irish international will be reunited with Graham Potter, who took over as West Ham’s manager last month.
Ferguson, who has made 13 Premier League appearances this season, has often featured from the bench for Brighton, and the move will give him a chance to secure regular playing time.
Brighton manager Fabian Huerzeler stated that the loan was crucial for Ferguson’s development after a frustrating year filled with injuries. Huerzeler emphasized that consistent game time was vital for the young striker to regain his form and continue his growth as a player.
The loan also allows Ferguson to work with Potter, who managed him during his time at Brighton, where he made 80 appearances and scored 17 goals since his debut as a 16-year-old.
Ferguson’s arrival at West Ham strengthens their attacking options, especially with key players Michail Antonio and Niclas Fuellkrug sidelined due to injuries.
The player expressed excitement about joining the club, praising the stadium and the opportunity to work with Potter once again. Potter, for his part, highlighted Ferguson’s qualities and his potential to contribute significantly to West Ham's campaign, as the team currently sits 15th in the Premier League.
