Weah Tips Nigerian Star Tochukwu Nnadi to Excel as Marseille Face Nantes in Ligue 1 Clash

Posted : 01 May 2026

Olympique de Marseille winger Timothy Weah has thrown his support behind Nigerian midfielder Tochukwu Nnadi ahead of a vital Ligue 1 fixture against FC Nantes. Weah is set to miss the encounter after receiving a one-match ban for accumulating five yellow cards. His absence forces head coach Habib Beye to adjust his lineup during a critical phase of the European qualification race.

The American international believes Nnadi is the ideal candidate to step into the side and maintain their momentum. Weah praised the youngster's pace and recent impact following a series of impressive displays in training and matches. He noted that the Nigerian has integrated well and possesses the physical tools to handle high-pressure league games.

Nnadi recently earned significant praise after his first start for the club against OGC Nice. During that 1-1 draw, the 22-year-old provided a clinical assist for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to score with a header. His statistics from that match were impressive, recording 69 touches and an 85 percent pass completion rate over 80 minutes of play.

Fans have already begun comparing the former Zulte Waregem man to legendary French midfielder Claude Makelele due to his defensive discipline. Marseille signed the Super Eagles prospect in January to bolster their midfield options for the second half of the campaign. The upcoming trip to Nantes offers him another chance to solidify his place in the starting eleven.

Marseille currently occupy sixth place in the Ligue 1 standings with 53 points from 31 matches. They trail the top four by four points and must secure a win to keep their Champions League dreams alive. Meanwhile, Nantes are fighting for survival at the opposite end of the table in 17th position.

Habib Beye’s side has struggled for consistency on the road recently, losing their last two away league fixtures. With only three games remaining in the season, every point is vital for their European ambitions. The team is also monitoring the fitness of other key players as they look to leapfrog rivals like Lyon and Lille.
