Watford offer new contract to injured Nigerian attacker

Posted : 23 May 2025

Watford, competing in the Championship, has announced its list of retained and released players following the end of the 2024–2025 season, making important decisions for both the first team and academy prospects.

Among the key updates, the club confirmed that promising forward Kash Odiase has been offered his first professional contract.

The 18-year-old Nigerian, who was a second-year scholar last season, earned this new deal despite undergoing surgery in March to address a serious injury.

Odiase’s contract extension reflects the club’s confidence in his talent, highlighted by his significant contributions during Watford’s impressive run to the FA Youth Cup semifinals, where he scored in back-to-back wins over Oxford United and Crewe Alexandra.

Before joining Watford as a scholar in 2023, Odiase developed his skills at Bromley FC and Bromley District.

In contrast, fellow academy player Prince Sikiru, an Irish-Nigerian forward aged 19, was released after spending the season with the development squad without making a senior appearance.

Additionally, Watford has secured Republic of Ireland U19 international Nickson Okosun on a long-term professional contract until June 2029, and retained senior midfielder Tom Dele-Bashiru, who appeared 27 times last season and scored four goals.
