The interim head coach of Warri Wolves FC, Johnny Austin, has urged his players to build on their recent heroics in Kano as they prepare to face Niger Tornadoes in the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 8.
The Sunday clash is scheduled for the Southern Delta University Stadium in Ozoro.
Austin, who masterminded the Seasiders’ hard-fought 1-0 away victory over Barau FC earlier this week, described the win as a testament to the team’s growing character and resilience.
However, he warned the players that resting on their laurels would be risky, urging them to show the same hunger and intensity when they lock horns with the Ikon Allah Boys.
“What we achieved in Kano was remarkable, but football doesn’t reward yesterday’s success,” Austin said.
“We must step onto the pitch on Sunday with the mindset that every game is a new battle. Niger Tornadoes are no pushovers, and if we want to make a statement this season, we must replicate and even surpass our performance in Kano.”
In a similar rallying call, Goalkeeper Coach Abayomi Olorunda has tasked his first-choice shot-stopper, Vincent Edafe, with maintaining his impressive clean sheet streak.
Edafe was the standout performer in Kano, pulling off a series of breathtaking saves to preserve Warri Wolves’ narrow advantage.
Olorunda praised the goalkeeper’s growing confidence and leadership at the back, expressing belief that Edafe has what it takes to frustrate Niger Tornadoes’ attackers.
“Vincent has been in outstanding form, and this is the time for consistency,” Olorunda noted.
“He must approach Sunday’s game with the same focus and determination. Another clean sheet at home will go a long way in boosting the team’s morale and securing crucial points.”
With both coaches issuing strong motivational statements, the tone has been set for what promises to be a thrilling encounter.
Warri Wolves will look to capitalize on home advantage, improved team chemistry, and solid goalkeeping to earn back-to-back victories as the 2025/2026 NPFL season heats up.
