WAFU-B U17: Golden Eaglets Begin Qualification Quest in Ouagadougou

Posted : 07 October 2026

Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets will begin their quest for qualification for next year’s U17 Africa Cup of Nations when the WAFU-B U17 Championship kicks off in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, on Saturday.

Head Coach Eboboritse Uwejamomere has selected 25 players for the regional championship, with the five-time world champions drawn in Group B alongside Niger Republic and hosts Burkina Faso.

The tournament provides Nigeria with an important route towards next year’s U17 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, making the Golden Eaglets’ campaign in Burkina Faso crucial to their continental ambitions.

Eboboritse has assembled a squad comprising three goalkeepers, seven defenders, eight midfielders and seven forwards, providing options across the different departments.

The Eaglets are scheduled to leave Nigeria on Tuesday morning and will have eight days to further sharpen their tactical organisation and physical conditioning before beginning their campaign on October 14.

Nigeria will face Niger Republic and Burkina Faso in the group stage, while Group A features Ghana, Togo and Benin Republic.

The Golden Eaglets will be expected to negotiate the group stage successfully before turning their attention to the knockout rounds and the ultimate objective of securing a place at the U17 AFCON.

For Eboboritse, the final preparations in Ouagadougou will provide an opportunity to strengthen the team’s understanding and ensure the players are ready for the intensity of the regional championship.

The 25-man squad comprises:

Goalkeepers: Mutiu Adenle, Abdulfatai Seriki, Richard Oguama.

Defenders: Chinedu Nchoje, Goodness Ukwubile, Victor Ogbonna, Daniel Dickson, Chinonso Umenozie, Jamiu Issa, Daniel Agunzi.

Midfielders: Israel Irabor, Adewolu Lukman, Izuchukwu Ogboji, Sochima Emeka, Michael Ekundayo, Al-Ameen Adegboya, Saeed Hussaini, Abubakar Abdulrasaq.

Forwards: Godswill Usoro, Daniel Lawrence, Chiedozie Igboenyobe, Faruq Azeez, David Fagbamila, Mubarak Fasiu, Abiodun John.

The Golden Eaglets will be aiming to justify their status as five-time world champions by producing a strong performance in Ouagadougou and securing the qualification ticket for the 2027 U17 Africa Cup of Nations.
