WAFU B U-17 Women’s Cup: Flamingos Draw Ghana, Togo and Niger

Nigeria’s Flamingos have been drawn in Group B of the 2026 WAFU B U-17 Girls Cup scheduled to take place in Côte d’Ivoire. The Nigerian U-17 women’s team will face Ghana, Togo and Niger in a demanding group-stage campaign.

The groups were unveiled on Thursday during a press conference held at the Stade du 04 Août. Nigeria will renew regional rivalries with Ghana and Togo, while Niger completes the four-team group.

Hosts Côte d’Ivoire headline Group A alongside Burkina Faso and Benin. The tournament will bring together some of the leading youth women’s teams in the WAFU B zone as they compete for regional honours.

The Flamingos head into the competition with confidence after securing qualification for the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco. Nigeria defeated Benin 5-3 in the second leg of their final qualifying tie in July to complete an 8-5 aggregate victory.

Queen Joseph was the standout performer in that decisive encounter. She scored a hat-trick as Nigeria produced another strong attacking display to secure their place at the global tournament.

The qualification means the Flamingos will compete at another FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup. The team will now use the WAFU B tournament as an important opportunity to strengthen preparations and test players against familiar West African opposition.

Ghana will provide one of the toughest tests in Group B. The two countries have a long history of competitive encounters at youth level, while Togo and Niger will also be looking to challenge for places in the knockout stage.

The 2026 WAFU B U-17 Girls Cup is scheduled to run from September 15 to 28 in Côte d’Ivoire. The short tournament window makes every group fixture important, with teams needing to start strongly to improve their chances of advancing.

For the Flamingos, the competition offers more than a regional title opportunity. It provides head coach and his technical staff with valuable competitive matches as Nigeria continues preparations for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.
