WAFU B U-17 Championship: Golden Eaglets Begin Rebuild as Eboboritse Names 62 Players for Screening

Nigeria's preparations for the 2026 WAFU B U-17 Championship have gathered momentum, with Golden Eaglets Head Coach Uwejamomere Eboboritse inviting 62 players to camp for the first phase of screening and training in Abuja.

The extensive list reflects the coaching crew's determination to identify the country's brightest young talents as they begin the process of assembling a competitive squad for the regional championship scheduled for October.

Eboboritse, alongside assistants Kalli Mohammed Kachalla and Abdullahi Isa, will oversee the exercise aimed at building a formidable team capable of restoring Nigeria's dominance at the youth level.

The invited players comprise five goalkeepers, 18 defenders, 20 midfielders, and 19 forwards drawn from clubs and football academies across the country.

Nigeria remains the most successful nation in the history of the FIFA U-17 World Cup, having won the title a record five times, and the technical crew will be hoping to discover another generation of players capable of sustaining that proud tradition.

The invited players have been directed to report to the team's Abuja camp, where they will undergo intensive screening before the final squad for the WAFU B U-17 Championship is selected.

The regional tournament will serve as a crucial test for the Golden Eaglets as they seek to secure qualification for the continental U-17 Championship and continue Nigeria's rich legacy in age-grade football.

The screening exercise is expected to provide the technical crew with an opportunity to assess the players' abilities before narrowing the squad ahead of the competition. With preparations now underway, the Golden Eaglets will be aiming to build a team capable of competing strongly and maintaining Nigeria's proud tradition in youth football.
