This development was confirmed by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) in an official letter sent to participating nations.
The statement read in part: “We regret to announce that the WAFU A&B U-20 Boys Cup of Nations, scheduled to take place in Prampram from June 15–30, 2025, has been postponed. A new date for the tournament will be announced in due course.”
The GFA also urged all participating teams, officials, and stakeholders to remain patient and to monitor official communication platforms for updates on the revised schedule.
“The tournament’s rescheduling aims to ensure the best possible conditions for a successful event,” the letter added. “We are committed to delivering an exciting competition for all participants.”
Sixteen national teams from WAFU Zones A and B were expected to compete in the regional championship. Nigeria's U-20 head coach, Aliyu Zubairu, had described the competition as a valuable preparatory platform for the upcoming FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile. The Flying Eagles have been in camp in Abuja for the past week as part of their build-up.
Further updates on the tournament’s new dates and logistics are expected from the WAFU organizing committee in the coming days.
