WAFCON 2026 Semi-Finals Set as Four Nations Secure World Cup Places

The semi-final line-up for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations is confirmed, with Morocco, Cameroon, Algeria and Malawi advancing to the last four in Morocco. Their quarter-final victories also secured qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.

Morocco will face Cameroon in the first semi-final at the Moulay El Hassan Stadium in Rabat on Wednesday, August 12. The hosts are seeking their first WAFCON title after reaching the final in 2022 and continuing their strong run on home soil.

The Atlas Lionesses have remained unbeaten in the tournament. Right-back Hanane Aït El Haj has been one of their leading performers, contributing one goal and four assists during Morocco’s run to the last four.

Cameroon reached the semi-finals after producing one of the tournament’s biggest results. The Indomitable Lionesses eliminated defending champions Nigeria in the quarter-finals and booked their place in a record 11th WAFCON semi-final.

Valentine Nguele’s side are still unbeaten in Morocco. Forward Marie Ngah Manga has also been important in attack, scoring three goals before the semi-final stage.

The second semi-final brings together Algeria and Malawi at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat. The match guarantees a new WAFCON finalist because neither country has previously reached the competition’s final.

Algeria are enjoying their best campaign in the tournament’s history. The Fennecs defeated Côte d’Ivoire in the quarter-finals to claim their first WAFCON knockout victory and also secured their maiden qualification for the Women’s World Cup.

Captain Marine Dafeur has been among Algeria’s key players. She has contributed two goals and one assist as the North Africans continue their historic campaign.

Malawi are the other major surprise of the competition. The Scorchers are competing at their first WAFCON and have already reached the semi-finals after defeating Ghana in the quarter-finals.

Coach Lovemore Fazili’s team had earlier stunned Nigeria in their opening group match. Temwa Chawinga has been central to their progress, contributing four goals and two assists.

The Algeria-Malawi meeting will produce a first-time finalist. The winner will become the seventh different nation to reach a WAFCON final since the competition’s modern era began in 1998.

The tournament is also guaranteed to produce a new champion. None of the four remaining teams has previously won the WAFCON title, ensuring that a new nation will lift the trophy.

The semi-finals are scheduled for Wednesday, August 12. Algeria face Malawi at 6pm at the Olympic Stadium, while Morocco meet Cameroon at 9pm at the Moulay El Hassan Stadium.
