WACC 2026: Karfamoriah Stay Perfect as Star Sport Academy Bounce Back

Karfamoriah FC continued their impressive start to the 2026 West Africa Champions Cup with a narrow 1-0 victory over Stade Malien de Bamako in Kankan.

Playing in front of their home supporters, the Guinean hosts struck early through Daouda Camara, who found the net in the 11th minute. Karfamoriah then held firm defensively to protect their advantage and secure another three points.

The victory followed their emphatic 4-0 win over Sierra Leone's Star Sport Academy in their opening match. With two victories from two games, Karfamoriah have collected six points and established themselves as one of the leading sides in the tournament.

Stade Malien had entered the match on the back of a 2-0 victory over fellow Guinean side Horoya AC, but their winning momentum was halted by the hosts. The Malian club will now need to respond in their remaining matches as they look to stay in contention.

Star Sport Academy, meanwhile, bounced back from their heavy opening defeat with a 2-0 victory over AS Real de Bamako on matchday three in Kankan.

The Sierra Leonean side produced a much-improved performance after being beaten 4-0 by Karfamoriah. The first half ended goalless, but Star Sport Academy increased the pressure after the interval and eventually broke the deadlock through Senesi Janneh in the 61st minute.

Hindovei Tucker then doubled the advantage eight minutes later, scoring in the 69th minute to secure Star Sport Academy's first victory of the competition.

The result gives the Sierra Leonean vice-champions one win and one defeat from their opening two matches, putting them back in the fight for a strong finish in the tournament.

For AS Real de Bamako, the defeat adds to a difficult start to the competition. The Malian club is one of four representatives from the country participating in this year's WACC, which also serves as an important preparation tournament ahead of the CAF interclub competitions.

Karfamoriah will now look to maintain their perfect record as the group stage continues, while Star Sport Academy will hope their victory over AS Real marks the beginning of a strong recovery after their disappointing opening performance.
