FC Diarra and Hafia FC played out a goalless draw in their WACC 2026 match on August 15 in Kankan, with neither side able to convert their chances into a winning goal.
The encounter marked Hafia FC's debut in the competition and produced the first draw of this year's tournament. Both teams created opportunities during an intense contest, but well-organized defending kept the score at 0-0 until the final whistle.
FC Diarra entered the tournament after finishing fourth in the Malian championship during the 2025-26 season. The point represented a positive start for the Guinean debutants, although Hafia will be looking for their first victory in their remaining group matches.
The game was the first of a doubleheader in Kankan, with the second match featuring defending champions Djoliba AC against Mauritania's FC Nzidane.
Djoliba AC opened their title defence with a convincing 2-0 victory over FC Nzidane. Badra Diakité broke the deadlock in the 13th minute before Kardidi Wadadi inadvertently put the ball into his own net in the 30th minute.
The victory gave Djoliba an ideal start as they attempt to retain the WACC title. Coach Amani Yao said his team arrived with the ambition of producing strong performances and defending their crown, expressing confidence in the squad's ability to compete and prepare for their upcoming African campaign.
Djoliba's early momentum, however, was halted in their following match against Horoya AC. The Guinean club responded to their opening defeat by beating the reigning champions, leaving Djoliba with one win and one loss from their opening two matches.
FC Nzidane, also known as FC Zidane in some reports, are based in Atar and entered the competition as Mauritania's runners-up. They were initially announced among the ten clubs for the tournament before Sudanese side Al Hilal withdrew because of heavy rainfall in Guinea, reducing the field to nine teams.
With the group stage continuing, Hafia FC will aim to turn their promising opening point into a first victory, while Djoliba must recover quickly from their defeat to Horoya if they are to mount a successful title defence.
